This registered Maine Coon cat/kitten is sold as a PET_____(altered) SHOW______(altered) BREEDER_XX_An honest appraisal of the cat/kitten's quality is provided by the breeder, though final adult quality cannot be guaranteed.

The seller is not liable for cats/kittens lost or stolen after acceptance by the airline carrier. It is the responsibility of the Purchaser to file a claim with the airline carrier if shipments are lost, damaged, or delayed resulting in mortality or sickness of the kitten.

 This cat will be given the proper diet in the proper amount and will have access to fresh water at all times. Purchaser agrees to make raw meat part of this cat's diet. This cat will be groomed regularly and kept in a homelike environment and not be subjected to unnecessary confinements. When confinement is necessary it will be in ventilated and sanitary conditions of a reasonable size for a cat of this size. Due to the social nature of the Maine Coon Cat the purchaser agrees to provide frequent and loving attention. This cat will not be outdoors without enclosure. This cat will not be denied needed veterinary attention. If, at any time, this kitten/cat is found to be malnourished, abused, neglected, or overbred, purchaser will surrender said kitten to breeder unconditionally, with no refund to be made by the breeder. This cat will not be declawed.

If the purchaser is unable to keep this cat, the breeder will be informed immediately. The breeder will then assist the purchaser to find a new home for this cat/kitten. However, the breeder will be given first opportunity to purchase back the animal. No cat/kitten from this cattery may be sold or given to an animal shelter, sold or given to a pet store, abandoned, or sold or given to a laboratory.

HEALTH GUARANTEE Our basic health guarantee extends through ………………………,one week, to include general health, and freedom from internal and external parasites. This kitten/cat is guaranteed to be in good health at time of sale and will be checked thoroughly by a licenced veterinarian (and a state vet for breeding cats overseas) in Brandon, MB, Canada before shipping. Standard inoculations and dewormers have been administered at 4 weeks (intranasal), 8 and 12 weeks of age.  A stool sample has been performed (fecal negative) within one week before transport.  We guarantee this kitten to be  Felv/Fiv negative at time of sale.  

TO QUALIFY FOR THIS HEALTH GUARANTEE YOU MUST HAVE THE KITTEN EXAMINED BY YOUR OWN VETERINARIAN WITHIN 48 HOURS OF PURCHASE (72 HOURS FOR SALE ON A FRIDAY or FOR SALE OVERSEAS) AND ADVISE THE BREEDER OF THE RESULTS OF SUCH EXAMINATION. CATS/KITTENS SOLD TO A MULTICAT HOUSEHOLD MUST BE ISOLATED FOR A PERIOD OF 21 DAYS.

PLEASE NOTE: During times of stress, such as going to a new home, cats can exhibit a variety of symptoms that are usually short in duration such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, diarrhea an/or constipation. If the veterinarian feels the condition was present prior to the sale the breeder should be contacted prior to any treatment beginning. If the breeder cannot be reached, action should be taken on the advice of the vet of the purchaser. The breeder will (upon receipt of a statement from the examining veterinarian that the illness was present prior to sale) pay the cost of the medical treatment (up to $ 100.-) Veterinary fees will only be refunded with the presentation of a letter from the veterinarian and the receipts itemizing the fees. The letter must be signed by the vet, on the veterinarian's letterhead and must fully describe the cat's condition and the treatment. If the veterinary costs exceed $ 100 and the purchaser is not willing to pay the difference, the cat will be returned to the breeder at purchaser's cost. A replacement kitten will be given as soon as available. The replacement is for the cat only. Breeder will not be liable for shipping costs. Please note that Felv/Fiv vaccination automatically voids our health guarantee. If the kitten/cat has any difficulties or illness, we request to be notified immediately. We will do our best to assist in finding solutions to problems. In the rare tragic event that the cat dies, especially of unknown causes, we request notification for the sake of the breed and related cats, and under circumstances request and will assist in payment for an autopsy.



For Breeders Only:

This kitten/cat will be bred in consideration of what is best for the animal and will be given appropriate breaks in between breedings.  This kitten/cat will be tested at cost of the purchaser for HCM by a cardiologist or specialist with similar knowledge and experience, with color Doppler equipment. The HCM test will be done at least twice. The time frame for these two tests is up to discretion of purchaser, as long as the first test is performed no later than age 2 and the second test is performed no later and no earlier than age 5 for males and age 6 for females.

This cat will be  x-rayed by a licenced vet and x-rays will be sent to OFA or similar registry.

This kitten/cat will only be bred to Maine Coon cats that are tested for HCM and HD (and preferrably for PKD) (prior to breeding for cats with risky pedigrees and/or no testing history). Kittens resulting from litters of this cat will only be sold/leased/borrowed traded with catteries that test regularly for HCM and HD (and preferrably for PKD). PrairieBaby Cattery reserves the right to require written proof of testing for HCM and HD .

This kitten/cat will AT NO TIME be sold/leased/given/ to or borrowed/used by any breeder/cattery. This male will be only be used for breeding by the purchaser. Outside stud service by this male will not be given.

The sale of breeding kittens needs written permission from the breeder at all times.


General Contract Policy: There will be a $ 50 charge for a bounced cheque. Purchaser is liable for any court costs and related charges, including attorney's fees, that are associated with the breeder's enforcing the terms of this contract. Any legal action which may arise under the terms of this contract will be brought in the country/city of breeder's residence. We the undersigned consider this document to be legally binding. Deletions or additions to the Sales Agreement have to be initialed by both the breeder and the purchaser.

Clause for newer breeders:

Please note:  We encourage breeders to sell cats from outcrossed bloodlines into breeding. However, we do NOT encourage newer breeders to do this.

The first litter from this cat will be sold as pets only. The purchaser can keep breeding kittens for her/his own breeding program. From the second litter of this cat breeding kittens can be sold to breeders after written permission from the breeder is obtained. The purchaser agrees to wait with the sale of breeding kittens from this cat until some of his offspring is at least one year old, in order to evaluate quality.  This cat will only be bred to cats from regular show lines until further notice.

The requirements for a novice breeder to be able to *possibly* obtain one of our kittens are:

1.) the novice breeder is actively showing her/his cats
2.) the novice breeder has a mentor who lives close by
3.) the novice breeder has been educating him/herself about lines, genetics, breed specific problems, etc. for a while
4.) the novice breeder can give us several good references
5.) the novice breeder would agree to sell his/her first litters of kittens as pets only
6) the novice breeder would agree to only breed our kitten to show line cats until he/she is more experienced
7) the novice breeder has a positive attitude towards being closely watched by mentors
