PrairieBaby Maine Coon Cats
Our Previous Foundation Projects:
First Previous Project;
Franky Frownsalot (PrairieBaby River Revival)
Red Tabby F2 male
When working with life animals, we will never fully complete anything. Franky has been tested for HcM (clear at age 22 months, will be re-tested at age 3 and 5), HD (OFA prelim good at 17 months) and PKD (clear at 17 months). He has sired four healthy litters (total of 18 kittens) for us with no stillbirths or deformities (except one stiff tail end, NO kink). We are keeping three of Franky's kids for breeding. Their names are Jericho, Joshua and Ashanti ( Our Baby Males link). Two of Franky's kids have been placed with breeder friends.
Franky's mother Jessy had one litter of four for us and all went well. Franky's father Peppy (on the link The Story behind it) had many healthy litters with no known problems. Franky has two half brothers in breeding. Cameron is one of the half brothers. Cameron sired three healthy litters (14 kittens) for us with no known problems so far. Jazzie is one of the kittens we kept from Cameron. Jericho is Jazzie's son also, from Cameron. I was told that Cameron's daughter Jossefine already sired her first healthy litter. Cameron's mother sired many healthy litters at my neighbor's house. Jack is Franky's other half brother. Jack is living in Sweden now. Jack sired two or three litters so far I believe. There were apparently two occurrences of small intestinal hernias.
There has been an incredible consistency in Franky's offspring in regards to type and temperament. Even though only 5 of his 18 kittens are being used for breeding, I would say that at least 9 or 10 of them could have been kept for this purpose. Size was ok for foundation, ...we're on the way.....................
Here is the link to the full foundation breedings we did with Franky:
Here is Franky's page:
Even though we feel quite comfortable with Franky's lines at this point, foundation breeding will always remain a journey - for everyone who is involved.
Please note: Franky's half brother Cameron will be added to this page as soon as we get a chance to get im tested for HCM and PKD. Cameron was OFA "good".
Second Previous Project;
We have been working on a colony of Canadian longhaired farm cats since spring of 1999. From this group we added a little F2 boy an F2 girl to our foundation cat family in the year 2000. They are Manitoba origin and we called the two kittens "PrairieBaby Fear No Evil" and "PrairieBaby I Love All You Made (Oktober)". Fear No Evil comes from a litter of four and Oktober comes from a litter of five. This is a very old and appearently healthy line and much valuable data could be collected.

Fearnoevil has sired two healthy litters with us and is now retired. His cousin Oktober also has a very good heath history. Fearnoevil has brought some very nice size and boning into our lines. You can read more about himon our links "the story behind it" and " how heathy is this line". Fearn No Evil had 6 healthy babies with our Monkeygirl and 5 healthy babies with our Clarabel. Fayre, Haley and Kasimir are three of his kids. His son Kasimir had 6 healthy babies with Plopp. Haley had four healthy babies with Cololdbear. One of them is being used for breeding. Clarabel and Dolly P. are Fear No Evil's granddaughers. Clarabel had a healthy litter of four at my friend's house and Dolly P had a healthy litter of seven from Coldoldbear. WhalebearP, Jelly Roll P and Sylvan are three of them. The kittens from Haley and Dolly P turned out to be heavy and large. Fayre II is Fear No Evil's granddaughter. This line is super affectionate. We have had several HCM and PKD tests done on this line and all were negative so far. All offspring cats from Fear No Eveil passed OFA with "Good" or "Excellent". Fayre, Fear No Evil's daughter, has had two healthy litters with no still births or deformities so far. We are presently working on more consistency in chins/profiles and tight ears which has been partly accomplished.
B. ) PrairieBaby I Love All You Made (Oktober)
Red Tabby/high White F2 female
ACA #:80716-2
PrairieBaby I Love All You made (Oktober)
Oktober is Fear No Evil's half-cousin. Their moms are half-sisters.
Oktober has had two litters of healthy babies with us.Oktober's half cousin Fearnoevil and Oktober's mother Lilly have had many healthy offsprings also. We kept her daughter Luisa from the breeding with Thunderpaw Ransom and and her sons Snowleamer and Coldoldbear from the breeding with PrairieBaby Plowman Songs of Hope. Oktober's daughter Luisa had two healthy all life litters from Brock (6 and 3 kittens). Coral, WhalebearP, Jelly Roll P , Sylvan and Fayre II and Bunnypuppy are Oktober's grandchildren. We have done several OFA testing with this line also. All offspring cats passed with "Excellent", "Good" and one passed with "Fair". Several heart and PKD tests have been performed and all were negative. This line turned out to be super affectionate. We are presently working on longer muzzles, a better ear set and better gums, which has been partly accomlished.
This is Oktober's mother, Lilly of the Valley. The picture was taken at the farm:

We were also able to take some new shots of Oakland, who is now neutered.

Third Previous Project;
Our second foundation project started in spring of 2000 and came from our friend's farm. We called her "PrairieBaby Shame Into Praise", short "Moudine". Moudine was born in a litter of 5 kittens. All survived and were in good health. Moudine's mother is Brown Mackerel Tabby farmcat. She was born in 1996 and has had several healthy litters with no deformities or stillbirths. We don't know Moudine's father. We figure he must be a Brown Tabby with high white from the neigbourhood, but aren't sure. So, we registered Moudine with ACA as an F1. We are confident that Moudine was not the result of an inbreeding. My friend and her family just moved to the area a while ago and brought their cats with them. A relation to the male who bred her mother is impossible.
Here she is:
"PrairieBaby Shame Into Praise" (Moudine)
brown mackerel F1 female
ACA # 81008-1
Moudine, 9 1/2 months old on picture
Moudine is very sweetnatured and easygoing, two traits people love in Maine Coons. She also thinks she is a dog. Besides our Eternity, Moudine is the funniest cat I ever owned. She jumps on my shoulder while I walk and wants to be carried. Her voice is hillarious.
Here she is as a baby:
11 weeks old
Moudine's mother has had four healthy litters. Moudine has had two healthy litters with us and is now retired. All of her kittens have superb immune systems, wonderful cots and good size. Their gums and teeth are picture perfect. We kept some of Moudine's babies for breeding, one of them being Shake Off The Dust. Moudine's daughter Plopp had six healthy babies with our Kasimir. The two girls Dolly P and Clarabel are Moudine's granddaughters. Clarabel had a healthy litter of four at my friend's house and Dolly P had a healthy litter of seven from Coldoldbear. WhalebearP, Jelly Roll P and Sylvan are three of them. This line turned out to be super, super affectionate. Moudine has passed on her wonderful temperament to her kids and grandkids. We have done several OFA tests with this line and all cats passed with OFA *Good* or *excellent*. We are presently working on longer bodies and better heads which has been partly accomplished.
Forth Previous Project
Our third project started in 2001. This project was the beginning of our own Canadian Polydactyl Masterweaver line. Master Weaver is a Blue Mac Tabby White Poly boy and comes from a private home on an acreage on the outskirts of Brandon. We were so happy to find this Poly line here in Canada that we registered a seperate Cattery name - especially for this line. Master Weaver comes from two old DLH who are now spayed and neutered, but are still living with the owners. Master Weaver was one of the kittens the owners had kept from one of the litters because his temperament was like a rubber doll (meaning you can bend this guy in all directions and all he does is hang there and purr)

Master Weaver P has had three healthy litters (total of 16 kittens)for us so far. He is one of the most important corner stones of our foundation program. Some of the good traits he has provided us with are heavy boning, good size, strong muzzles, super cuddly and dog-like temperament (his kids jump on shoulders and give hugs and kisses) and nice gums and teeth. We are now working with Master Weaver's daughters and granddaughters. Plopp, Dolly P, Clarabel and Sophia are some of his offspring kitties. Clarabel had a healthy litter of four at my friend's house and Dolly P had a healthy litter of seven from Coldoldbear. WhalebearP, Jelly Roll P and Sylvan are three of them. This line is super affectionate.So far the hip testing history is oustanding.
Inactive Project:
*** Please note: this project is presently inactive! ***
This foundation project comes from a White (green eyed) F1 female we called "Canadiana of PrairieBaby" (ACA 80489-1) The people have given their consent to register Canadiana with ACA.
Canadiana is either genetically black or torbie/tortie "underneath" her white coat. She carries dilute and solid.
Here is Canadiana with four white babies, born in the spring:

We know that Canadiana is not a beauty but she produces gorgeous offspring!! For you to see, this is "Manitoba of PrairieBaby" at age 2 1/2 with his owner in Brandon:
Manitoba of PrairieBaby,
neutered F1 white foundation male
pictured here with his owner
pictured on his owner's steps
Manitoba is a son of Canadiana and sadly neutered. He is 100 % Canadian foundation. Manitoba weighs over 20 pounds, which is very unusual for a foundation cat with no Heidi Ho in his pedigree. He has green eyes, which is VERY rare in white cats.
Canadiana is close to 13 years old and according to her owner, she has had around 25 to 30 litters and raised at least 90 healthy kittens in her entire life. (Try not to judge folks! :-). They have been giving them away over the years. Nobody has ever brought a kitten back to the owners or wasn't happy. Her babies are extremely good natured and make perfect pets for children. Canadiana usually passes on very strong muzzles to her kittens, also great size and all right ear set. Most of them have tufted ears and paws. Canadiana lives with her owners in Brandon.
Of course we don't know where our white line originated. We would prefer to call a first generation Maine Coon a DLH. However, there was a white Maine Coon seen in the State of Maine in the 1800s. Here is the link for that white Maine Cat. The articles on this page are written by Beth Kus, Dirigo Maine Coon Cats.
