PrairieBaby Maine Coon Cats
How We Raise Our Kittens:
PrairieBabies are raised underfoot and naturally by stay-home mom Judith (assisted by two sweet helpers called Julian and Fabian).
Fabian and Midnight Janet
none of them are for sale! :0)
Oh, and how could I forget to mention ol' Balou with his new retirement hobby:

Having a health inspector as a husband, hygiene is a big issue in our home. Our kittens are born in a little basket under my desk in my office. At about 3 weeks they are moved to our safe kitten nursery where they stay until they leave. During that time we spend a lot of quality time with them, handling and cuddling them to prepare them for their new homes. Starting at about 5 weeks, the kittens are also partly kept in a playpen located in the middle of our kitchen so they can get used to different noises of a busy household.
and yes, they do spend time in our bed also :-)
Mom stays with her babies at all times. This allows them valuable nutrition and the comfort of being nursed until they leave our house. We do keep our kittens until they are between 12 and 16 weeks of age, or later. Considering that the Maine Coon Cat is a very slowly developing breed, our Prairiebabies need this time with their mother and their siblings in order to become that patient, gentle, easygoing pet you read about in the magazines.

Our kittens come with registration papers, spayed/neutered; vet-checked; written, vet-certified health guarantee and information on kitten care. We ship to approved homes but invite you to come and visit with us and find out about the different colors and personalities of our PrairieBabies.
For the protection of the breed, ALL pet kittens will be spayed/neutered before they leave our home.
We believe in buying high quality food, for both our human family and our animals. Here is what we presently feed our cats and kittens:
Morning: Plate of supplemented Raw food (Beef or Chicken)
Lunch time: A snack of Evo (Innova), a high meat content, grainless Dry food, mixed with Felidae, a high quality high meat content dry food
Evening: Plate of supplemented Raw food (Chicken or Beef)
Every other day: A little bit of Wellness Canned food as a treat
We also feed day old chicks to all our cats, usually once per day or every other day. Day old chicks are a complete diet for cats (no supplements needed!!). Our cats devour them like there is no tomorrow ;-))
About 5 years ago, some close friends have convinced me of the benefits of natural rearing. I have recently switched my entire flock of cats to a raw meat diet. The change in food has definitely increased my costs in raising a litter. In return we are experiencing many wonderful results in regards to their general health. We honestly don't know why we haven't considered natural rearing of cats earlier!
In Canada, we recommend this supplier of a raw meat diet:
Here is a company that sells a a great FULL supplement for Raw food:

What is different at PrairieBaby Cattery ?
1.) We provide individual registration papers for each kitten, not only the blue slip like most catteries.
2.) The ancestors of kittens from our Cattery are tested for Heart-, Kidney- and Hip problems (HCM, PKD and HD).
3.) Our Cattery is Vet-certified Felv/Fiv negative.
4.) A kitten from us already comes spayed/neutered. Our vet gives us a special rate. This saves the buyer money and also the hassle to care for the kitten after surgery. PrairieBaby takes over the risk for the procedure until the kittens leave our house. The cost for spaying/neutering is not included in the kitten price. We keep boys for one week after the neutering and girls two weeks after the spaying. We have had phenominal results with early spay/neuter.
5.) We handle vaccinations with caution. We believe that through outcrossing and a raw food diet our kittens have a very strong immune system which makes them well capable to recognize and fight disease. Our kittens are vaccinated twice with a regular 4-way vaccine. We will under no circumstances vaccinate for Ringworm, Fip of Felv/Fiv. Rabies vaccination will only be given if a cat has to cross the border. We don't recommend re-vaccinating cats as adults. For making an educated decision if you would like your kitten vaccinated, please visit the following website:
6.) Our kittens are raised by a stay home mom. This means that they are being handled frequently and accustomed to everyday noises in an average household, including noisy children. And.....even though we proudly show our cats in ACFA, we don't spend every other weekend at the show hall which gives us plenty of time for our children and cats.
8.) You will find us brag about the temperament of almost each kitten we offer. The reason for this is that we only keep cats for breeding with exceptionally loving and sound characters.
9.) We don't save on food cost. We feed a very high quality raw and commercial diet to our cats.
