PrairieBaby Maine Coon Cats
Breeding Kittens/ Cats
updated February 16, 2008
We are happy you found us! Before inquiring about our outcross breeding kittens, please be sure to read our contract. We would be happy to send you our breeder's questionnaire to get to know you better. We are very selective and require several excellent references before the sale of a breeding kitten/cat.
Currently available:
* 1 Black and White 4wd Polydactyl female kitten
* 1 Blue Tabby and White female kitten
1.) Here is Sarah PP, a Black and White Polydactyl female kitten from the breeding Jelly Roll x Hobbit:
(6 (declaw)/5(no declaw),6/6 Snowshoes)
Sarah's temperament and quality are equal - simply fantastic! I love her size, coat and boning. She has almost everything a good Maine Coon needs, including ear tuffs (hardly visible on pictures).

and her cute little profile
This girl is full of live and love! She is offensively affectionate with people and gets along well with other cats. Don't expect that your *no* is being taken as a *no* with Sarah! She is determined to snuggle up at my face and give kisses and hugs. Sarah likes to be carried around by children. Sarah is also very outgoing and used to our dog. Her voice is a little intense, so a breeder should want to own an acre or two when she comes into heat, haha.
Below is a picture that shows Sarah's curious and alert character best:
wanna play?
long body and tail on this girl, the coat will get longer as she grows....
Sarah's chin will need help as it is rather flat at the moment. It might bounce back later on, not sure. In any case, she carries a good chin from both parents and will produce this when bred to the right boy. Her foundation content is ca. 86 % which is very high for an F5.
Sarah is polydactyl on all four feet (6 (declaw)/5(no declaw),6/6 Snowshoes). Please visit the nursery news for details and pedigree. Sarah will be ready to go in March or whenever the weather warms up a little for shipping.
2.) A Blue Tabby with White female kitten from Hazelnut and Sylvan is now available to a reputable Cattery. Here are the first pictures:
This girl is outstanding in both temperament and quality. Super cuddly and quite outgoing. Wonderful coat quality, good boning and medium in size. I adore her facial expression and her head shape. She is F5 and has an approximately 97 % foundation conten - basically a full outcross to the entire breed! Will be ready to go in March - or whenever the weather warms up for shipping.

Please note: As of 2006 , I am only dealing with breeders who are willing to include a raw meat diet as a vital part of their feline nutrition. Commercial dry food is detrimental to a cat's health. Please have your beginner's diet ready before your kitten arrives. Here is the link:
About our Polydactyl line:
Even though about 40 % of the original Maine Coon breed was supposedly Polydactyl, some associations have closed the doors on most of these precious lines. To my knowledge, by the year 1999, only one active Polydactyl line was left in our breed. A couple have been added by foundation breeders since then. Polydactylism is naturally a wonderful trait of our breed. It is NOT a harmful mutation or deformity.
We decided in 2000 to start a new Polydactyl line here in Canada. We were very enthusiastic about this new creation at the time and proudly called it "The Masterweaver Line". ...............Over the years we have poured a lot of passion into these cats - in order to improve their weaknesses and enhance their natural strenghts. Of course the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but we think that the project is slowly turning into fine piece of art.

The strengths of our Poly line is extreme affection, heavy bonedness, a moderate type, super coat, wonderful weight and perfect gums and teeth.
Rayn PP, 3 months old

Since good quality Polydactyl Maine Coons are very rare we had basically kept everything with Poly feet for our own breeding program in the past. We have only recently started to release the first Poly kittens into the gene pool. Please e-mail us for more information on Polydactylism in Maine Coons.
Before you write with questions, we encourage you to visit these great websites with tons of information on the topic:
We encourage people to read our contract before inquiring about breeding kittens from our Cattery. This will prevent future misunderstandings. Thank you!
Very Important, please read:
Please note that PrairieBaby Cattery only sells to breeders with excellent references who test for HCM and HD (and preferrably for PKD) and have (are planning) a responsible outcross breeding program (in place). We take this very serious and do not make exceptions in this matter. Resulting kittens from cats purchased from our cattery can only be released into catteries who test also.
We prefer selling our breeding kittens to show line breeders before selling to other foundation breeders. Why? Because we want our lines integrated in the general gene pool, rather than being switched around within a little elect club of foundation breeders. Foundation Maine Coons need to be included into the general gene pool to be effective. A kitten from our higher generations usually already carries all the goodies needed to produce good quality offspring.
The kittens below are a result of breeding foundation x show line crosses.

Since we have been particularly breeding for the important traits that our modern show cats sometimes lack (good weight and boning, intelligence and soundness, broadness of head and broadness of muzzle), our Maine Coons usually mix very well with Maine Coons from show lines. We hope that the pictures above will encourage people to start outcrossing soon!
Male cats from our Cattery cannot be used for outside stud service unless we have a special agreement with the purchaser. If we sell a breeding male, it is sold to the person we have a written contract with and not to serve a whole country. If you wish to give stud service, please use a male with your own Cattery name on it.
We don't give exclusive breeding rights on lines or breeding cats as we do not consider this of any value for the breed. We also do not sell a kitten of a particular litter to only one specific breeder in a certain country. We chose the people we work with by our own ethical values, not by geographic origin. If two breeders don't work together there should be no reason they cannot co-exist with two cats from the same pedigree - no matter how big or small their country might be. If you want to be the only breeder in your country that can offer certain lines, don't come to us for a kitten please. You might rather want to re-evaluate your motives in breeding then.
The genetic history of our breeding cats will be openly presented at all times. We don't hide facts from other breeders that might be important for their breeding program. The future of our breed is of greater concern to us than the reputation of certain lines or Catteries.
Special Clause for people in Sweden and England: You need a place (in another country for your kitten to stay for 6 months because we can't send kittens into a 6 month quarantine. Sorry! Canada is a rabies country.
In rare cases we might decide to sell to new breeders if we see potential and if we have time to mentor and to build a relationship. We strongly recommend showing an altered cat for a while to get to know the standard of the breed before starting a breeding program.
The requirements for a novice breeder to be able to *possibly* obtain one of our kittens are:
1.) the novice breeder is actively showing her/his cats
2.) the novice breeder has a mentor who lives close by
3.) the novice breeder has been educating him/herself about lines, genetics, breed specific problems, etc. for a while
4.) the novice breeder can give us several good references
5.) the novice breeder would agree to sell his/her first litters of kittens as pets only
6) the novice breeder would agree to only breed our kitten to show line cats until he/she is more experienced
7) the novice breeder has a positive attitude towards being closely watched by mentors
You can find out more about litters that have been born and also upcoming litters on our page " nursery news". We would also encourage you to make yourself familiar with our kitten contract.
(Please note we will soon create a page for our 2007 references as well!)
